Two things:

1) Anyone in need of HP icons, especially ones that have to do with Harry/Hermione? I've got 'em right here.

2) Anyone want to write for Witch Weekly? The people that are supposed to be our writers haven't written in quite awhile, so if you can write a two-page (minimum) ficlet every few weeks, you might want to consider joining us. If you're interested, drop a comment or e-mail me at insufferable_know_it_all@hotmail.com. I'll explain how it works.

  Round Robin
Aileen, Katie, Em

It was Saturday, and the castle was hot and muggy. Hermione leaned over her dresser to open the window to her dorm. "There isn't enough ventilation in this old castle," she thought to herself irritably, remembering a bad incident a few days ago in which a third-year fainted in her dorm from the heat and had to be revived with pumpkin salts. She absentmindedly began dreaming up new, better floor plans for the school, as her fingers fumbled with the latch on the window. It finally gave way with a horrible screech, and she pushed the window open as wide as it could go. She inhaled deeply and smiled. She looked out across the far end of the school grounds where the treetops of the Forbidden Forest met the clear blue sky, and suddenly saw someone on a broomstick, heading straight for her window.

He - at least she thought it was a he - was flying very fast, and she realized just in time that he wasn't slowing. With a shriek she hopped away from the window, heart pounding, and whipped out her wand to cry out a quick, "Impedimenta!" at the person. The spell was effective in slowing the broomstick enough to prevent a fatal crash, and the rider toppled to the floor as the end of the broom splintered against the way. Hermione looked at the crumpled heap on the floor and gaped when she realized who it was.

“Malfoy?” she exclaimed incredulously, but the blonde didn’t hear her, for it appeared that he was unconscious. He lay sprawled out, face down with his knees bent at odd and undoubtedly uncomfortable angles. His black Hogwarts robe was twisted around his midsection, causing his wand to stick out from his pocket. The broom lay next to him, wood splinters strewn upon the ground. In his left hand, Hermione could see that he was clutching a crumpled scroll. Overcoming her surprise, she knelt to the floor, curious to see the contents of the parchment, but at the present moment, more concerned about what to do with the obviously gravely injured boy before her. Although he wasn't much of a boy anymore. More like a man, she noticed, looking at his body before her with a critical eye. Taller. Broader shoulders. She shook her head, clearing it of stray thoughts, and, obviously having made a decision, rolled up her sleeves and brandished her wand. He's my enemy, but I can't leave him on the ground like this. I'm sure he wouldn't do the same for me, but I'm not him, after all. Hermione smiled grimly and conjured up a stretcher. Using a simple levitation charm, she managed to transfer Malfoy onto the stretcher without jolting him. She hesitated, looking at the parchment in his hand. Finally, she took it and shoved it deep into the pocket of her robe. Leaving the splintered broom on the floor, she flicked her wand once more - "Wingardium Leviosa" - and the stretcher slowly rose from the ground, swaying gently.

She didn't fancy carting him through the Gryffindor common room, though he had to be taken to the hospital wing; there would undoubtedly be one or two students that hadn't headed for the lake on the warm, sunny day, and she didn't want to deal with their questions. Hermione sighed to herself and started the slow walk down the stairs, mentally running over the most efficient way of explaining the situation. When she reached the bottom, she crept in front of the stretcher to peek out into the common room. It appeared to be empty. It wasn't until she was halfway across the room that she discovered she wasn't alone.

“Hermione! There you are!” Harry had been sitting against the wall that connected to the stairs up to the girls’ dormitories; a blind spot Hermione had failed to check. It wasn’t that she minded Harry’s presence so much as the fact that she definitely looked rather strange sneaking through her own common room and directing a stretcher that carried Draco Malfoy. In fact, under any other circumstances, she would definitely enjoy Harry’s presence, for spending time with him often gave her a warm and peaceful feeling of content. Now, however, she allowed her eyes to meet his, and waited for the inevitable question to come.

"Er, you know how Dumbledore announced at dinner last night, well, it wasn't night, but more like evening, and did have you, I mean did you have a taste of that, I think it was roast chicken, it was really good, I thought," Harry babbled, his face turning red. "Anyway, remember how Dumbledore said that there was going to be a Winter Ball? I know it's early to be thinking about it, it's only October after all and we haven't even gotten to Halloween yet, and have you seen the Hogsmeade announcements for this month, because I haven't and I've been needing some new quills, I bought new ones over the summer but it's a long story..."

By this time Hermione had stopped listening and was wondering why on earth Harry hadn't seen Malfoy on the stretcher in front of her, hovering in mid-air. She chanced a glance at it as Harry rambled on. Yes, it was still there.

"...and Lavender sat on my fourth quill, that's why I need new ones now," Harry said, evidently at the end of a story. He noticed that Hermione was looking away from him; he followed her line of sight. "Oh hey, I meant to ask, why are you carrying around an empty stretcher? Are you practicing for charms?" Without waiting for an answer, he plunged on: "So as I was saying, the Winter Ball, yes, that could be fun, right? I was wondering, if you didn't have anything else to do that night, or if nobody else asked you that you wanted to go with, I mean, erm...if you wanted to go with me?"
